Best Restaurants In Medicine Park

The small but historic settlement of Medicine Park has several good restaurants and cafes that will not only satisfy your hunger, but also make your time in town more memorable. There are historic restaurants that once saw the likes of Machine Gun Kelly and Al Capone come through the door and cute ice cream parlors that will help you cool off in the summer heat.

While there isn’t a lot of choices when it comes to dining out, what is available is varied and is enough to satisfy a stay of one or two days in Medicine Park.

Best Restaurants In Medicine Park

Joe Mountain Breakfast Bar

Joe Mountain Breakfast Bar is the go to place for breakfast in Medicine Park. The cafe features all the usual breakfast suspects like breakfast sandwiches with bacon and eggs, but also bagels and delicious fruit smoothies too.

But the best thing on the menu here are the waffles! The waffles at Joe’s are definitely southern influenced like the granny smith; a Belgian waffle covered in apple pie filling with cinnamon, graham cracker crumbs, caramel syrup, plus a scoop of ice cream.

The OTB is also quite good, this one is a Belgian waffle folded in half filled with whipped icing, marion berries, raspberries, and blackberries, covered in whipped cream.

This place has a very cozy atmosphere inside the restaurant, and the outside patio is just as lovely. It’s a perfect place to start your morning especially on those warm summer mornings.

The Old Plantation Restaurant

The Old Plantation, built in 1910, is a historic restaurant that was once the playground for the affluent. During the roaring twenties, this place was frequented by Bonnie and Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly, and even Al Capone.

While the establishment’s colorful history is enough reason to plan a visit, this restaurant is actually one of the best places to eat in Medicine Park.

Take a seat at one of the comfortable booths and choose from a menu that serves traditional southern style food like country fried steaks, catfish, fried green tomatoes and pork chops that have been hand cut and flame-grilled.

Be sure not to miss the loaded fries; one pound of thick cut steak fries smothered with cheddar cheese and topped with bacon bits and chives.

And don’t forget to save room for dessert, options include homemade coconut creme pie with whipped cream and cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream.

Even if you aren’t hungry, this place is still worth visiting as it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The grand, three story building with its unique cobblestone façade, has retained some of its original features like the original reception desk and original Tap Room, and near the entry is a wall lined with old photos that will transport you back in time.

Riverside Cafe

If you’re looking for a casual and cozy place to dine, stop in at the Riverside Cafe. This restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner has a range of delicious southern fried menu items like catfish po-boy, fried okra, and frog legs. Yes, you heard that right, frog legs! They also have some good burger options too such as the jalapeño popper burger.

One of the nicest things about this place is that it is located beside the river (hence the name) and offers a large shady outdoor patio which overlooks the water.

If all the tables are taken outside, there are also a few dining booths inside the restaurant that overlook the river too. Oh, and the place is pet-friendly too!

Chad’s El Sabores Mexican Restaurant

If you feel like Mexican food, head to Chad’s El Sabores Mexican Restaurant which is across the river from downtown Medicine Park.

This place has all the regular Mexican style dishes like ceviche, chorizo enchiladas, and a range of taco varieties, but the standouts are the sizzlin’ fajitas and steak with Argentine shrimp.

They also have a bar serving up some of the coldest beers in town and a good selection of cocktails too.

There is a gorgeous view of the Medicine Park landscape from the back deck and it’s the perfect spot to relax with a drink in hand.

They are closed on Monday and Tuesday and open every other day of the week from 11am to 9pm.

Cobblestone Creamery

If you’re craving ice cream be sure to stop by Cobblestone Creamery for a delicious treat. This cute ice cream parlor offers a huge selection of ice cream flavors, toppings, and syrups.

How it works is that you choose a flavor of ice cream first and then toppings, which the staff smash up altogether in front of you for a unique concoction especially made for you. Drizzle some syrup to finish it off.

There are so many toppings here that the combination possibilities are endless! Some of the mix-ins include coconut, almonds, snickers, pecans, kit-kat, cherries, and gummy bears.

If it’s all too much for you trying to decide which flavors go with which toppings, there is a menu with combination recommendations like the Spring Fever; vanilla ice cream with strawberries, blueberries, brownie bits, and strawberry drizzle.

For something a little more out there try the Smurf which is a homemade birthday cake with marshmallows, sprinkles and raspberry drizzle.
